MAEBot: An Open-Source Robot Platform for Education and Research

MAEBot is a mobile robot with rich sensor capabilities designed to provide students and researchers with a robust, open, affordable platform on which to explore the concepts of robot control, localization, kinematics and machine vision.

MAEBot is built in a bi-level configuration. The lower PCB houses the drivetrain, power source and motion sensors and is powered by an ATMEL SAMA5 ARM processor. The optional upper PCB houses the machine vision system based on Point Grey’s FireFly MV vision sensor paired with a 1.5GHz dual-Core Variscite Cortex-A9 System-on-Module for image processing and high-level control.
